Care and Treatment 101: A Community Education Initiative for Sickle Cell Disease
The Care and Treatment 101 (CT101) Initiative by Sickle Cell 101 (SC101) provides patient-friendly education on sickle cell disease (SCD) treatment options, healthcare navigation, and pain management. Through expert-led discussions, fact sheets, podcasts, and digital content, we empower individuals to make informed decisions about their care.
Our goal is to equip patients, caregivers, and providers with clear, accessible information on managing SCD. By breaking down complex topics such as self-advocacy, treatment access, and pain management, we help individuals navigate their health with confidence. CT101 fosters open dialogue and community engagement through interactive Q&As, virtual meetups, and multi-platform educational campaigns.
As treatment options for SCD continue to evolve, our mission is to ensure that the community has the knowledge needed to evaluate and access these therapies. By delivering balanced, evidence-based education, we empower individuals to take charge of their health while addressing the realities of SCD care today.

Initiative Key Topics
At Sickle Cell 101, we develop our educational programming around the topics that matter most to the sickle cell community. This year for Care and Treatment 101 (CT101), we are focusing on the following key areas based on insights and feedback from patients, families, and providers:
- Navigating Healthcare – We will provide guidance on self-advocacy, building strong provider relationships, understanding patient rights, and accessing comprehensive care.
- Treatment Options – Our programming will cover disease-modifying therapies, emerging treatments, and alternative approaches to managing sickle cell disease
- Access to Care – We will address challenges related to healthcare access, insurance barriers, geographic disparities, and financial resources available for treatment
- Pain Management Strategies – From medication-based approaches to non-pharmaceutical methods, we will explore how individuals can manage pain effectively while considering long-term health.
- Mental and Emotional Well-Being – Recognizing the impact of SCD beyond the physical, we will provide education on coping strategies, mental health support, and navigating medical trauma.
Our goal is to empower patients, families, and providers to make informed decisions about sickle cell care and treatment. We thank the community for guiding our programming and helping us deliver the most meaningful education possible.
